The Ukrainian agricultural sector enters summer with several key market indicators: spring sowing is almost complete, farmers have a new window to submit funding applications, and the topic of energy autonomy is becoming increasingly practical for producers, elevators, and processing facilities.

For agribusiness, these are not isolated news items but parts of a single operational picture: sowings shape future supply, access to funds influences modernization, and energy solutions are increasingly viewed as elements of operational continuity.

Grain sowing is nearly finished

As of June 2, Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.84 million hectares of grains and legumes. This represents 97% of the projected areas, according to the Ministry of Economy.

The largest area traditionally falls on corn: 4.34 million hectares have been sown, or 98% of the plan. Spring wheat and oats have already been sown on 100% of the forecasted areas.

  1. Spring barley — 713.4 thousand hectares, or 95%;
  2. Peas — 259.5 thousand hectares, or 95%;
  3. Spring wheat — 186.2 thousand hectares, or 100%;
  4. Oats — 137.5 thousand hectares, or 100%;
  5. Buckwheat — 51.1 thousand hectares, or 90%;
  6. Millet — 37.6 thousand hectares, or 94%.

Technical crops are also nearing the end of sowing. They have been sown on 6.9 million hectares, which corresponds to 95% of the forecast. Sunflower occupies 4.73 million hectares, soybeans nearly 2 million hectares, and sugar beets 190 thousand hectares.

Interest-free loans via DARE: what farmers can apply for

The State Agricultural Register has opened applications for interest-free loans for farming enterprises. The maximum funding amount is 1 million UAH, with a repayment period of up to 5 years.

Eligible applicants include farming and family farming enterprises registered in DARE. Basic requirements include no tax debt, bankruptcy procedures, or sanctions restrictions. Additionally, the enterprise must operate outside temporarily occupied territories.

Funds can be used for purchasing equipment and machinery, developing livestock, modernizing production capacities, planting perennial crops, irrigation, land reclamation, and other farm development areas.

The application period will run until July 2, 2026. Afterward, the documents will be reviewed by the Ukrainian State Fund commission, and farmers will receive the results through DARE.

Alternative energy: agro-business among the most active investors

According to the 2025 energy transformation business survey conducted by SUNSAY NRG, the share of companies already investing in alternative energy increased from 6% to 20.2%.

An additional 40.5% of companies plan such investments in the near future, and 35.8% are actively considering this possibility. The most dynamic sector, according to the survey, is precisely agro-business.

The market focus is on solar power plants, energy storage systems, backup sources, and broader energy resilience strategies. For agricultural enterprises, these solutions are important not only for cost savings but also for mitigating power supply disruptions and maintaining operational continuity.

SUNSAY NRG also announced a new study on the energy resilience of businesses in Ukraine. Its results are expected to be published in August 2026.

Key conclusions for agro-business

  1. Spring grain and technical crop sowing in Ukraine is in the final stage.
  2. Corn, sunflower, and soy remain the key crops by area in the spring sowing structure.
  3. Farmers have a limited time window to apply for interest-free financing through DARE.
  4. Energy autonomy is shifting from a crisis response measure to an element of investment strategy for agro-enterprises.

What this means for the market: In the coming weeks, the focus of agro-business will shift from completing sowing to assessing crop conditions, funding needs, and preparing infrastructure for the storage and processing season. For farms planning modernization or energy projects, it is crucial to synchronize production plans with available support programs and actual autonomy needs.
