As of November 3, farmers had sown 4.45 million hectares of winter grains, or 85.4% of the planned area. The sown area increased by 235,100 hectares over the week.
Six regions had already completed sowing. For market participants, this is a snapshot of progress in the fields, not a forecast of future yields or prices.
Wheat is the main crop in the sowing campaign
Wheat had been sown on 3.95 million hectares, or 87.1% of the planned area. Winter barley covered 420,500 hectares (70.8%), while rye covered 74,300 hectares (96.9%).
The largest areas of winter grains were recorded in Mykolaiv region, at 500,000 hectares; Dnipropetrovsk region, at 475,600 hectares; and Kirovohrad region, at 396,700 hectares.
Where sowing is complete and where it is ongoing
Sowing of winter grains had been completed in Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions.
The largest weekly increase in sown area was in Odesa region, at 65,000 hectares. Another 43,000 hectares were sown in Dnipropetrovsk region, 28,000 hectares in Kharkiv region and 23,800 hectares in Vinnytsia region. Meanwhile, progress against the planned area stood at 52% in Odesa region, 59.3% in Donetsk region and 69% in Sumy region.
A practical reference point for market participants
The statistics show where sowing had been completed and which regions were still working in the fields as of the reporting date. They do not indicate how much grain will be available for sale and do not provide grounds for conclusions about price trends.
Sellers and buyers on AgroPost should check specific offers by crop, region, quality parameters and delivery terms: nationwide sowing data are no substitute for information about individual grain lots.
What this means for the market
In early November, Ukraine’s winter grain sowing campaign was more than 85% complete, with wheat sown on 87.1% of the planned area. For the grain trade, this provides context for monitoring regional progress, but is not a signal about prices or future grain supply.
