The plant protection market in Ukraine is entering a period where demand increasingly depends not only on weather and phytosanitary conditions but also on the commercial logic of crop production. For sellers and buyers of plant protection products, it is important to identify which segments of agricultural production remain active in cultivation, processing, and export.
Recent market assessments for apples, oilseeds, and corn offer practical context for planning the procurement of herbicides, fungicides, and other agrochemicals. While this is not a direct forecast of plant protection product sales, it provides a useful benchmark for product range development and finding buyers on AgroPost.
Orchards: Export of Apples Boosts Focus on Product Quality
Ukrainian companies increased apple exports in the 2025/26 marketing year. According to market sources, from July 2025 to April 2026, over 22,000 tons of apples were shipped abroad, representing a 31% increase compared to the previous season.
Apple imports into Ukraine during this period decreased to approximately 5,500 tons from 18,200 tons in the previous season. Major import destinations for Ukrainian apples include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Sweden.
For the plant protection segment, this means that in horticulture, it is especially important to sell not just a product but a solution tailored to the commercial apple: fungicidal protection, pest control, compliance with application regulations, and residue expectations. Buyers should clarify with sellers the full set of documents, waiting periods, and compatibility of products within the protection scheme.
Oilseeds: Large Residues Maintain Focus on Technology
As of August 1, 2026, Ukraine, according to the relevant association, had remaining stocks of 947,000 tons of sunflower seeds, 560,000 tons of soybeans, and 205,000 tons of rapeseed. The largest stock was in sunflower seeds.
From September to June, 9.66 million tons of sunflower were processed domestically, while seed exports amounted to 39,000 tons. For soybeans, total season resources were estimated at 5.379 million tons: 2.65 million tons processed domestically and 2.169 million tons exported. Rapeseed resources totaled 3.446 million tons, with 1.34 million tons used for domestic processing and 1.901 million tons exported.
For plant protection product sellers, this signals the importance of maintaining separate offerings for sunflower, soybean, and rapeseed, rather than mixing them into a universal package. In these crops, buyers most often evaluate herbicide efficacy, weed and volunteer control, as well as fungicide solutions depending on growth stage and seasonal risks.
Corn: Stock Forecasts Are Critical for Herbicide Planning
USDA’s August forecast increased Ukraine’s ending stocks of corn in the 2026/27 MY to 4.86 million tons from 2.06 million tons in July. The yield forecast was also raised to 31.8 million tons, while export estimates were lowered to 22 million tons.
While these estimates do not directly indicate herbicide demand, corn remains a crop where timely weed control is crucial for optimal technology implementation. For AgroPost buyers, a practical advantage is comparing proposals based on active ingredients, application timing, crop restrictions in crop rotation, and original packaging availability.
Key Takeaways for AgroPost Participants
- For orchardists: seek plant protection products with clear application regulations and documentation, especially if targeting export markets.
- For oilseed producers: compare proposals separately for sunflower, soybean, and rapeseed, as technological challenges differ among these crops.
- For corn growers: plan herbicide protection in advance and verify product compatibility with crop stage and weed spectrum.
- For plant protection product sellers: create listings not with generic phrases but by crop, active ingredient, packaging, sales region, and documentation availability.
What this means for the market: demand for plant protection products in Ukraine should be viewed through the lens of specific crops and sales channels. For AgroPost, the most useful listings will be those that help farmers quickly select a product tailored to orchards, oilseeds, or corn without unnecessary details or the risk of purchasing unsuitable solutions.
