Crop Protection Market in Ukraine: Transition to Cautious Procurement Planning

The plant protection market in Ukraine is entering a period where procurement decisions increasingly depend on farmers’ working capital. For buyers of crop protection products, important considerations include deferred payments, regional availability, and the ability to quickly meet specific crop needs.

For sellers on AgroPost, this means that competitive advantages will not only be in the range of herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides but also in clearly defined delivery conditions, payment terms, and confirmed product availability.

Financing can support demand, but buyers are assessing liquidity

Some regions demonstrate active engagement of credit resources in the agricultural sector. Specifically, farmers in Ivano-Frankivsk region have attracted 1.016 billion UAH in bank loans for production development since the beginning of 2026. A total of 168 agricultural producers received financing.

Within the framework of the “Accessible Credits 5–7–9%” program, 99 agricultural enterprises in the region attracted 527.5 million UAH, of which 212.6 million UAH were secured with portfolio state guarantees. Such instruments can support production purchases; however, for the crop protection market, it is crucial to clarify specific credit conditions and targeted use of funds.

This serves as a practical signal for buyers: before reserving a batch of crop protection products, it is advisable to align the payment schedule with credit limits, harvest timelines, and other resource needs — fuel, seeds, fertilizers, and logistics.

Weak liquidity in the grain market affects purchasing behavior

Currently, grain producers are hesitant to sell their new harvest. According to analysts, the near-complete halt of trade through sea ports has led to a decline in port basis prices and a loss of liquidity in the physical market.

Over the past week, the SPIKE CPT Odessa index for corn decreased to $200/ton, for food wheat — to $198/ton, for feed wheat — to $188/ton. For corn on FCA Chop basis, the indicator adjusted to $228/ton.

For the crop protection sector, this does not automatically mean a drop in demand but does alter its structure. Some farms may postpone purchases closer to actual field needs, split orders, or seek offers with more flexible payment options.

What crop protection sellers on AgroPost should focus on

In such a situation, announcements should quickly address key buyer questions: which products are available, in what quantities, where they are located, what are the payment and delivery conditions.

  • Show real availability. For seasonal items, this is more important than a broad but unconfirmed product list.
  • Separate offers by purpose. Herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, seed treatments, and desiccants are better presented as individual listings.
  • Specify payment terms. If deferred payments, partial prepayment, or post-delivery payments are possible, these should be indicated immediately.
  • Avoid overload in descriptions. Buyers need active substance, crop, application rate per instructions, packaging, region, and product documents.

What buyers should pay attention to

Crop protection buyers should avoid “stockpiling” purchases without tying them to a technological map. During unstable harvest sales, frozen funds in products can add pressure on working capital.

At the same time, critical products for crop protection should be planned in advance. If a product is needed within a short technological window, delays in search or delivery could be more costly than timely reservation.

Practical approach for the season: separately secure mandatory products for the basic technology and leave flexibility for corrective treatments depending on crop condition.

What this means for the market: The crop protection sector in Ukraine will move towards more precise procurement, shorter-term solutions, and a greater role for financial conditions. On AgroPost, sellers with transparent listings, confirmed availability, and clear logistics will succeed, while buyers will be those who combine agronomic needs with the farm’s actual cash flow.
