In most regions of Ukraine, demand for road transportation of grain exceeded the number of available grain carriers. The most challenging regions to find transport were Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Odesa.
For grain sellers, this means that budget planning and delivery timelines should be based on specific routes rather than just their length. Data on the situation was published on October 16, 2026.
Southern routes — among the most active
Last week, significant volumes of grain were transported by road from Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad regions to Odesa, mainly towards Izmail. Grain was also transported from Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions to Izmail, Reni, and Orlivka.
In the western part of the country, transportation from Ternopil to Zakarpattia, from Zhytomyr to Volyn, and from Khmelnytskyi to Lviv was active. However, volumes on these routes were lower compared to the southern directions.
Rates depend on route and vehicle availability
Tariffs varied unevenly: for distances up to 100 km, average rates decreased, while on longer routes, costs varied significantly depending on the region. On certain routes, carriers offered rates up to 3,000 UAH/ton for distances of 501–600 km and up to 3,700 UAH/ton for 601–700 km.
For routes over 900 km, rates exceeded 4,000 UAH/ton on some directions. The most expensive transportation was from frontline regions, where safety risks and more complex working conditions influenced prices. The figures provided are examples of individual offers, not a uniform tariff for all routes.
What to consider when searching for a carrier
- Compare proposals specifically for the required loading and delivery points: the same distance does not guarantee the same rate.
- Specify the volume of grain and preferred delivery times to receive comparable offers.
- For routes from regions with a vehicle shortage, allocate time for finding an available grain carrier.
In Vinnytsia, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, and Kyiv regions, according to the data, there was generally enough grain carriers for existing transportation volumes. The situation was also relatively better in Dnipropetrovsk region.
What this means for the market
The grain road transportation market remains heterogeneous: truck availability and tariffs depend on the specific region and route. For buyers and sellers on AgroPost, this underscores the importance of coordinating logistics along with delivery parameters and comparing current carrier offers before finalizing agreements.
