Ukrainian Grain Market: Elevators Prepare for Uneven Harvest Flow

The Ukrainian grain market is entering a period when for sellers and buyers, not only crop volumes matter but also the speed of acceptance, storage quality, and logistics accessibility.

In Mykolaiv region, the agricultural enterprise "Avangard" has begun harvesting sunflower with a yield of 1.5 t/ha. According to the farm, some producers in the region are achieving yields of 400–900 kg/ha.

Although sunflower is not a cereal crop, its harvest start is an important indicator for the elevator market, reflecting seasonal loads on drying, cleaning, transportation, and storage facilities in southern regions.

The farm manager attributes weaker results to heat and drought. She notes that from August 2025 to July 2026, only 120 mm of productive rainfall fell, and currently, there is no moisture in the soil.

Due to the lack of soil moisture, "Avangard" is postponing rapeseed sowing and is considering starting after September 10.

This season highlights two practical directions for elevators: automation of operations and flexible storage solutions. Industry focus is shifting toward technologies that enable working with fewer personnel and faster processing of batches.

Additionally, the market mentions the launch of FAO registration for grain storage bags for farmers. This provides farms an opportunity to review participation conditions and assess whether temporary storage can reduce pressure on elevators during peak weeks.
