The fertilizer market in Ukraine is increasingly dependent not only on prices for nitrogen, NPK, or phosphate products but also on the stability of logistics. For buyers, it is important not just to find a favorable offer but to understand whether the supplier can deliver the batch to the farm or regional warehouse on time.
Recent news from the Danube direction shows that fertilizer cargoes remain part of the international river traffic in the region. While this is not a direct indicator of prices in Ukraine, it provides the market with a practical reference regarding the role of alternative routes.
Phosphate fertilizers are moving through the Lower Danube
Ukrainian company "NIBULON" has signed a long-term contract with Romanian TTS for international transportation along the Lower Danube between Romania, Serbia, and Bulgaria. The first voyage has already taken place: a barge-tug convoy delivered a shipment of phosphate fertilizers from the port of Constanta to Serbian Prahovo.
Afterward, the vessels loaded grain and oilseed crops in Danube ports of Bulgaria for delivery back to Constanta. According to the company, this circular scheme allows for reducing empty transits and more efficient fleet utilization.
For the fertilizer market, the very presence of phosphate cargoes in Danube logistics is significant. Constanta remains one of the notable regional hubs for agricultural cargoes, and the Lower Danube is a route that may be of interest to suppliers in the broader Black Sea-Danube region.
What this means for fertilizer sellers on AgroPost
Sellers should more clearly specify not only the price per ton but also logistical conditions: warehouse for dispatch, available volume, delivery format, possibility of transportation by road or rail, and estimated timelines.
This is especially relevant for phosphate and complex fertilizers, where buyers often plan purchases in advance. If the product is already located in Ukraine or at a regional warehouse, this can be a competitive advantage compared to "on order" positions.
- For phosphate fertilizers it is advisable to specify actual availability and packaging.
- For NPK it is important to indicate the formula and minimum batch size.
- For nitrogen fertilizers buyers usually quickly compare prices, logistics, and payment terms.
- For wholesale batches transparent information about the place of dispatch is critical.
For buyers: check not only the price but also the delivery route
For an agricultural producer, a cheaper offer does not always mean a better purchase. If the fertilizer is still in transit or depends on a complex route, the risk of delays can be just as important as price differences.
Before confirming an order, it is advisable to clarify where the product is physically located, whether there are documents for the batch, the shipment schedule, and who is responsible for delivery. For seasonal purchases, this is especially important: a delay of a few days during peak periods can alter the farm’s production plan.
A practical approach for buyers: compare fertilizer offers not only by price but by the total cost to the farm, considering delivery, timelines, and availability.
Port infrastructure remains a risk factor
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, in the first half of 2026, Ukrainian seaports handled 42.4 million tons of cargo, of which 23.6 million tons were agricultural products. Transshipment of agro-products increased by 20% compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, port infrastructure remains under pressure due to attacks. Sources also report damage to port infrastructure facilities and civilian vessels since the start of the full-scale invasion. For the fertilizer market, this means that logistical risks must be factored into commercial terms, even if a particular batch of fertilizer is routed differently.
What this means for the market: Ukrainian fertilizer sellers and buyers should pay closer attention to the logistics component of deals. The strongest offers on AgroPost will have confirmed availability, clear dispatch locations, transparent delivery prices, and precise delivery timelines.
