Ukrainian farmers have already completed the main part of the early grain harvest, so the demand for crop protection products is gradually shifting from urgent summer treatments to preparing fields for the autumn campaign.
For sellers and buyers on AgroPost, this is a period to update offers on herbicides, fungicides, seed treatments, and remaining seasonal crop protection products, based on the harvested areas and future sowings.
Harvests Set a New Rhythm for the Crop Protection Market
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of August 17, Ukrainian farmers have harvested approximately 6.6 million hectares of cereals and legumes, representing 57% of the forecasted area. The total yield reached 30.83 million tons with an average yield of 4.62 t/ha.
Wheat has been harvested from 4.86 million hectares, or 94% of the area. Barley harvesting is nearly complete: 1.52 million hectares harvested, which in the Ministry's report exceeds the forecasted area by 102%. Peas are also almost fully harvested — 295.66 thousand hectares, or 99%.
Rapeseed harvesting is ongoing: 1.32 million hectares harvested, or 99% of the forecasted area, with a yield of 3.76 million tons. This indicates that a significant portion of early crop areas are already transitioning into post-harvest care and planning for the next technological cycle.
What is Important for Crop Protection Product Buyers Now
After harvesting early crops, farms review their needs for products not only for the remaining season but also for autumn fieldwork. The focus is on weed control, soil preparation, and protection of future crops at the start of vegetation.
For marketplace buyers, it is advisable to compare offers based on several criteria: active substance, crop application, shelf life, packaging, availability of documents, and quick regional delivery options.
- Herbicides remain a key category for controlling volunteer plants and weeds on fields after early crops.
- Fungicides are important for planning winter crop protection in the new season, especially where farms operate with intensive technologies.
- Seed treatments become relevant before sowing winter crops, when farmers prepare seed batches and purchase accompanying products.
- Insecticides should be planned based on regional pest monitoring rather than purchased solely on residual principles.
Regional Factors: Where Demand May Accelerate Faster
The pace of harvest varies across regions. Odesa region leads with approximately 1.19 million hectares harvested. Followed by Mykolaiv with 653.8 thousand hectares and Kirovohrad with 555.7 thousand hectares.
In regions where early crops have already been harvested on significant areas, the crop protection market may more quickly shift toward post-harvest and pre-sowing solutions. Meanwhile, in higher-yield zones, farmers may plan their technologies more carefully for the next season to maintain productivity.
The highest average grain yields are recorded in Khmelnytskyi region — 6.99 t/ha. Also notable are Sumy, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The lowest yield among reported data is in Kherson region — 3.28 t/ha.
How Crop Protection Product Sellers Can Prepare Listings on AgroPost
After the active phase of field work, buyers more often look for specific information rather than general descriptions. Listings with clear details about the product have a better chance of attracting inquiries.
- Indicate the active substance and concentration;
- Specify the crops for which the product is registered or actually offered;
- Add packaging details, batch volume, and stock remaining;
- Clearly state the shelf life;
- Specify the region of shipment and delivery conditions;
- Avoid mixing herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides in one listing without a clear structure.
For buyers, it is important to verify the origin of the product, packaging integrity, and accompanying documents. This is especially relevant for remaining crop protection products after the season, which may be offered at a lower price.
Implications for the Market. The harvest of early crops in Ukraine is entering its final phase, and simultaneously, the crop protection market shifts focus to autumn planning. For sellers, this is the time to update warehouse offers, and for buyers, to proactively cover their needs for herbicides, fungicides, and seed treatments for the upcoming season.
