Organic producers overhaul logistics, confirming orders based on transport availability

For food producers, logistics has become not only a cost item but also a constraint on sales. Three affiliated organic businesses — Organic Milk, Organic Meat Product and Homemade Chicken — have overhauled their supply chains and increased the share of exports.

However, having a foreign buyer does not guarantee a shipment: the companies report difficulties finding carriers to deliver products from their facilities.

Orders are confirmed based on delivery capacity

The businesses have updated their logistics processes and renegotiated contracts with major Ukrainian retail chains. They confirm orders only when they can ensure delivery.

For buyers, this means that product availability and delivery times should be agreed before placing an order. Sellers, in turn, need to check transport capacity for each specific volume and route rather than relying solely on prior arrangements.

Finding carriers is holding back exports

According to a representative of the businesses, the challenges include a limited number of carriers in Ukraine, a shortage of drivers and damage to logistics infrastructure. In her assessment, European carriers are also reluctant to operate on routes to Ukraine.

As a result, even with international partners in place, products cannot always be transported from the factory. The companies are responding to the shortage of transport capacity by purchasing additional vehicles and looking for drivers.

Exports have become part of the adaptation strategy

The businesses previously focused mainly on the domestic market. After sales declined, they began seeking international partners, and the share of exports grew rapidly from 2025, according to a company representative.

This experience shows that entering new markets requires not only a buyer but also a confirmed route and an available carrier. Market participants should check delivery terms, transport capacity and shipment schedules in advance.

What this means for the market

For sellers on AgroPost, logistics capacity should be part of the commercial offer: they should clearly state which routes are available and agree on delivery times before confirming a deal. Buyers should check whether delivery is secured for their specific order. In the organic products segment, reliable transport directly affects the ability to sell goods in Ukraine and abroad.
